SEGMENTS & FOLLOW-UPS

Follow up with the people who actually acted.

Clicked, opened, or never opened at all — save any of the three straight from a campaign you've already sent, then send a different message to each. Nobody gets the same follow-up as someone who already acted.

  • Built from any campaign you've sent

  • Resend to non-openers with a new subject line

  • Scanners and unsubscribes never count

THE PROBLEM

One follow-up email, every different reader

Most platforms send the same follow-up to everyone on a list, whoever clicked three times and whoever never opened once. That's not a strategy. It's a guess.

See how reports work

You send a campaign. Some people click, some open and stop there, most never open it at all. A week later, you send a follow-up, and it goes out to all of them, worded exactly the same way.

The people who already clicked get a rerun of a message they acted on days ago. The people who never opened get the same subject line that didn't work the first time, with nothing changed to earn a second look.

The group worth chasing is the one that never opened, and the subject line is the one thing you can actually fix. But with a single audience standing in for three different outcomes, you can't write to any of them specifically — you end up writing to none of them.

Segments fix the aim before you fix the words. Define the group first: clicked, opened, or didn't open. Then write the one email that actually fits the people reading it.

HOW IT WORKS

From one campaign to three follow-ups

Every campaign you send already splits your audience into clicked, opened, and didn't open. Segments turn that split into something you can act on.

Send your campaign

Run it like any other send. Who clicks, who opens, and who doesn't is tracked automatically, no extra setup needed.

Open the report

Go to that campaign's report once it's been live long enough to show real results.

Save the segment

Pick an outcome, clicked, opened without clicking, or didn't open, and save that group straight from the report.

Write the right follow-up

Give non-openers a new subject line, or give clickers a message about what comes next.

Send to the segment alone

Launch to that group only. Everyone outside it stays untouched.

IN DETAIL

Three outcomes, three emails

Every campaign splits your audience the moment it goes out. Segments just let you act on the split.

CLICKED, OPENED, OR NEITHER

Save any outcome from any campaign you've sent

Open any report and you can save the people who clicked, the people who opened but didn't click, or the people who never opened at all. It works on campaigns you sent yesterday or months ago — the data lives behind the report for as long as it exists.

Each outcome becomes its own audience, ready to receive something different. No exporting addresses, no manual list building, no copying rows into a spreadsheet.

  • Works on any campaign, past or recent

  • Three outcomes: clicked, opened, didn't open

  • Audience locks the moment you launch

NON-OPENERS

Resend to the people who never opened, with a new line

The people who didn't open your campaign never saw your subject line do its job, or fail to. Resend to that exact group with a different subject line, keep or change the content, and give it a second chance to be read.

You're not guessing who didn't open. The segment is built from the actual report, so the resend list is exact, not a rough approximation pulled from memory.

  • New subject line, same or different content

  • Built straight from the original send's report

  • Reaches only the people who missed it

ACCURATE BY DEFAULT

Scanners don't count. Neither do unsubscribes

Security scanners open email automatically before a person ever sees it. Those opens never count toward a segment, so "opened" means a person opened it, not a scanner checking a link for safety.

Anyone who unsubscribed or was suppressed is left out of every segment automatically. You never have to cross-check a resend against your suppression list by hand before you launch it.

  • Scanner opens excluded automatically

  • Unsubscribed people never resent to

  • Suppressed addresses excluded too

WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU

Fewer wasted sends, sharper results

Segmenting by behavior turns one dead-end send into several that actually work.

Stop guessing who to resend to

Target your resend to the people who actually missed it, not the whole list all over again.

Give non-openers a real second chance

A new subject line to the exact group that never opened the first one doubles your shot without doubling the send.

Treat engaged people differently

People who already clicked don't need the same pitch twice. Send them what comes next instead.

Reports that mean what they say

The audience locks the moment you launch, so the report afterward describes the exact people who received it.

No manual spreadsheet work

Every segment is built straight from the report screen. No exporting addresses, no copy and paste.

Clean lists stay clean

Unsubscribed and suppressed people are left out of every segment automatically, so you never accidentally resend to them.

COMPARED

What a typical platform calls a segment

Most platforms treat a segment as a tag you maintain by hand. Here, it's built the moment the campaign report exists.

A typical email platform

  • A segment is a tag you add and maintain by hand.
  • A resend goes out to the whole list again.
  • Scanner opens count toward engagement.
  • Unsubscribes need a manual cross-check before every send.
  • The audience can shift while a report is still updating.

Yeti Outreach

  • Built automatically. Clicked, opened, or didn't open, straight from the campaign report.
  • Resend to non-openers only, with a new subject line, nobody else touched.
  • Scanners never count. Opened means a person opened it.
  • Suppressed and unsubscribed people are excluded automatically, every time.
  • The audience locks at launch. The report and the audience describe the same people.

QUESTIONS

Segments and follow-ups, answered

What's a segment?

A group of people defined by what they did with a campaign you sent, like everyone who clicked. Send your next campaign just to them.

Can I segment a campaign I sent months ago?

Yes. Segments pull from the report of any campaign you've sent, no matter how long ago, as long as the report still exists.

Does a security scanner opening my email count against my segment?

No. Opens generated by security scanners are filtered out before a segment is built, so "opened" always means a person opened it.

What happens to people who unsubscribed?

They're left out of every segment automatically, along with anyone suppressed on your account. You never have to check a list by hand before a resend.

If I resend to non-openers, can my audience change mid-send?

No. The audience locks the moment the campaign launches, so the report you see afterward describes exactly the people who received it.

Can I build more than one segment from the same campaign?

Yes. Save the clicked group, the opened-without-clicking group, and the didn't-open group separately from the same report, and send each one a different message.

Do I need a new subject line for a resend?

You can reuse the original or write a new one. A new subject line is worth trying first, since the first one didn't earn an open.

Does CAN-SPAM apply to a resend sent to a segment?

Yes. Every send, including a resend to a segment, needs honest headers and subject lines, a physical address, and a working opt-out honored within 10 business days, the same as any other campaign.

WORKS WITH

Pairs well with the rest of the system

Segments decide who gets the next email. These decide what it looks like, and what happens after.

Test variants inside each segment

Even a resend to non-openers can launch with several subject lines, rotated evenly across that exact group.

Send them to a landing page on your domain

Every link in a segmented resend can point to a landing page hosted on the domain that sent it.
